Sonja is the best!

Sonja is not just a good Agility teacher. She is an amazing observer. She knows what to watch for in my dog and me when we are working together. She has a way of correcting that is always positive – never negative. Her explanations are always clear and corrections right on the money. Praise is a big part of her technique – but not given when not earned. AND she’s fun!

I have learned more about me and my communication skills and body language and my dog during these last 2 1/2 years than I thought possible. I drive an hour each way to class every week and would not consider finding a “more convenient” class. Sonja is the best!

For the past two years Ballys, my lab/golden mix, and I have taken agility classes from Sonja Thiels. Sonja is a wonderful, very knowledgeable and experienced instructor who makes the classes fun, challenging and very interesting. She has a great personality and easily approachable and doesn’t mind my questions. I especially appreciate her ability “to read” Ballys when he is doing well in class and when he becomes confused and most importantly when Ballys has had enough and is tired. She also understands Ballys’ “zoomies” at the beginning of class as a way for him to settle into the course she has constructed. Sonja also works hard to help me understand how important my body position is so that Ballys can easily understand where he should be on the course and what he should do next. Sonja gives herself totally to the class and all the participants all of which makes for a fabulous class.

I have been a client of Atlanta Dog Trainer and Sonja for over a year now. Sonja is a fantastic agility instructor, always keeping the best interest of both the dog and the owner in mind. Her warm, energetic personality created an immediate bond with my dog, Beau. It is as if from the start she saw him as a complete picture. What he wasn’t, and what he was. Her interactions with Beau, and her instructions for me are always geared towards bringing out the best in Beau, highlighting what he is capable of.

Sonja knows how to accentuate and focus on what a dog is doing right. She above all wants to keep the dog in a positive mindset, so the dog himself feels he is making progress and hangs “in the game,” so to speak, with both joy and enthusiasm. She is sensitive to when a dog has given all he is capable of on a given day, and wants him well taken care of mentally and physically, even if it means his stopping for the day, regardless of what time it is, or where other classmates are in their progress with regards to the class agenda. For Beau, sensitive to high temperatures in summer heat, sometimes this means he is finished for the day after the success of only a couple of runs. Sonja knows how to read his body language, and she never fails to do what is right for him.

At the end of our weekly class, dogs and humans both feel a sense of accomplishment and pleasure. No one wants to leave the course area. This is due to Sonja’s talent, personable disposition and great sense of humor, all of which foster a community of support and encouragement amongst participants. I highly recommend her classes to anyone wanting a great class experience with their dog, where your bond grows deeper and deeper as the classes progress.

I just wanted you to know what information you gave us and worked with us on was very good and successful. I think you made us look at ourselves and realize that we needed to be more positive. We were getting so angry at them. The positive reinforcement has worked like a charm.

Molly is running up to her bed without us running after her all over the house at night. She is listening much better. DaVinci is better, as well. He is listening when we ask him to sit, stay, down and off. So we are progressing. He still is so young and full of energy but he is coming along. Jack and DaVinci are not in love but they are getting along better and can move in the same space now and are both living together. We are watching very closely for triggers. You made us aware of that also.

I now have the dog that I always wanted…

Chloe “no Bite!” That is how I spent my days. Her aggression was only towards me and my two small children. The minute my husband walked out the door, it was game on for her. Our sweet spoiled boxer puppy had figured out that she was the queen and we were there to serve her. Desperate for help, I called Trish at the Allanta Dog Trainer and she came right out. Chloe made sure that Trish saw who was the boss immediately growling and snapping when she did not get her way. For an hour Trish went through what was going to have to happen for me to take back the control in the house. I was skeptical and wrote it all down: put up the toys; food; stopped spoiling her with attention; stopped yelling; and, approached her in a calm way only awarding her for being good. She fought me at first; but, in a week was doing EVERYTHING I said and no growling or biting every time I walked by or at the kids. “Is this my dog?” Even the neighbors were amazed. I also put her in the doggy day camp where she has been learning socialization with the other dogs and it wears her out&ndahs;she LOVES it! Trish and her husband Rick could not be more friendly and helpful–they are so good to Chloe and my family. Every penny I spent with them has been worth it 120% because I now have the dog that I always wanted thanks to Trish and Atlanta Dog Trainer. We will continue to go there–they have changed our lives.

SO Caring!

Our puppy, Chase, just completed his board and train obedience training with Crystal and we couldn’t be happier! All of his puppy problems (mouthing, jumping) have been eliminated and he came home happy and healthy and trained on basic commands. Couldn’t be happier with Atlanta Dog Trainer!

The entire staff was kind, considerate, and professional.

I took a medium sized, very active female dog to Ji Kim, a trainer at Atlanta Dog Trainer. She is 9 mos old, and never had been leash trained. Ji was very patient with her, and when I picked her up at the end of her stay she was walking happily and reliably on a leash. The entire staff was kind, considerate, and professional. Fantastic Training!

I absolutely enjoyed my time training and learning under the tutelage of Atlanta Dog Trainer, in particular, Ji Kim. Ji always made himself available to his students regarding issues pertaining to dog behavior, and was exceptionally knowledgeable. We have put a lot of time into Trooper and now we feel that we are able handle him better. With our hectic lives I know that we must carve out time each day to do Troopers training. When we rescued Trooper we did not know that he would have so many issues. We considered and almost went through with turning him over to Great Pyrenees Rescue. When we look back at what we started with in July to what we have now, I get very emotional. Trooper has made some amazing strides. Ji has shown us all the good traits that Trooper has and how to strengthen our bond with him. We enjoyed having Ji at our house and hope that we can recommend your services and Ji to anyone who ask.

I have had my two standard poodles (Jake and Bella) enrolled in Trish’s 3:30PM (Sunday) Level 1 Obedience for the past 6 weeks. We “graduated” today, and I am interested in signing Bella, my younger poodle, up for Level 2. Another Sunday class would be great. Do you know when the next class might start? We highly recommend Ji and ADT to others…

We enrolled our hyper-energetic Weimaraner, Viecoe, in the basic obedience course. We were amazed to watch Ji get him to follow commands, and stop bad habits. The advice, homework and hands on examples were excellent, as were Ji’s demonstrations. We highly recommend Ji and ADT to others, and are looking forward to more classes.

I was at my wits’ end with my dog Herman acting out. I thought he was aggressive; but, I was wrong. Thanks to Trish, I found out he was just very nervous and afraid and that’s why he acted out. Three visits and he is a different dog: happy; confident; and, so eager to please.

This was the best investment ever.

We were at the end of our rope with a dog we rescued. We dropped her off for the two week “doggie boot camp” and picked up a totally different pet. She follows commands, obeys, and, most importantly, she sleeps. This was the best investment ever.
